Was at Phan Thiet in 69-70. Primarily in Maintenance and flew with the slicks and guns when needed. Would like to locate my old clerk "Turtle" whose actual name I can't remember. Hello to all and thanks for the memories.

Admin reply: Hi Bill, thanks for visiting our website. Hopefully, someone here can help you with "Turtle."

Welcome home!

Hi Polecats,

I was a crew-chief/gunner with the 35th Engineer Group Aviation Section based at Cam Ranh Army Airfield in 1967-1968 and remember seeing your troop ship come in at Cam Ranh Bay in October 1967 and when you supported the 3/506th of the 101st at Phan Thiet in January, 1968. Our UH-1Hs call signs were Castle 145 and 200 and we supported B Company of the 87th Engineer Battalion nesxt to your unit and I remember the ammo dump being blown up during TET 68' and the F-100s and Skyraiders dropping bombs on the river side on the other side of the cemetary.
I have slides of those visits.

Give me a shout if you like.

Admin reply: Got it straight from the poster that he hit the wrong button and never meant for his post to be private, so here it is out in the open:

"I was in Laos 1965-66/ lst Air Commando Gp, Det one small field in Laos as a Radio Op. Talked to many A/c on the air and our own birds. diverted a/c for our needs if anywere in country. Really appreciate the way you guys went the extra mile tohelp us out at times and I hope we were of help to you. We did resup for the Mhongs and held down Long Chien as l ong as we could. Lots of NVR used to come our way. My good friend Hal Madden was one of you "Chopper Whoppers" - I was Air Force and he was in Vietnam later on after I had left. Great job guys, maybe i'll see you all some day. Cricket out -T- those chopper noises are driving me nuts."

I served in the 192nd in 70, 71, and 72.
Forgot to mention in my last post that I was on Polecat 759 and 421.
My nickname was Red because of my red hair, of course.

Admin reply: Welcome home Thomas. I must have flown one of your birds because I was there at the same time. Hope you can make it to the reunion. Last year we had 2nd Platoon Crew Chief Phil Moomjean, who I am sure you remember, and many of the 2nd Platoon pilots from that era - Kimmich, Madden, Minkler, Nichols, Stribling, Todd & Wolf.

Best regards, Bill Cope, Polecat 24
