My uncle Johnny was KIA 10,6,71 with the gunner Montoya. Before my father(Johnny's oldest brother), passed away in '04, he shared with us that the AC called him from Florida. It gave him closure. He spoke the words this pilot shared with him with great pride. It was remarkable in this regard. For years our family new very little about the actual incident. We were actually told in 71 that no one survived. It was good for many in the family to actually hear the truth surrounding the last moments of our loved ones' life. I'm hoping to hear a few comments about my uncle Johnny if anybody remembers him, also the pilot that spoke to may dad Harris. Thank you all who served, respectfully, C.J.Arthur

Admin reply: Hi C.J.

Thanks for signing our guestbook. Hope you also had the opportunity to visit our ORDERLYROOM/Final Farewells webpage where we have honored your uncle, SP5 Johnny Arthur. He was an American patriot and brave soldier!

Just to update you, the Aircraft Commander (AC) of the helicopter your uncle died in, Steve A. Watson passed away on February 11, 2002. The Pilot (P) of that helicopter, Robert E. Goolsby is a member of this website group, and his contact information can be found on our FRIENDLIES/Muster webpage should you wish to contact him about Johnny.

Best regards, Bill Cope, Polecat 24

I was a in country transfer to the 192nd in August 1968 as a OJT door gunner. I was young and had the whole Fun, Travel, and Adventure thing going. Volunteered! Woke up one morning in Oct and was blind as a bat. Tent mate, SP5, named Jerry ? took me to the OR and then to sick call. Doctor said my eyes looked like "Rice Paddies" whatever that meant and I was transported to 7th Field Hosp. A week there and they had no idea. Was sent to hospital at Camp Drake,Japan where I spent 5 months and got well. Never got back to LZ Betty and the 192nd. DEROS to White Sands Missile Range,N.M. Long story short, I retired CSM in 1991 and still have vision problems. ?? I wonder who got my gear and personal items from my foot and wall lockers? LOL!!! Left the 192 with the fatigues I had on and never heard from again. Great site. Wish I could have gotten too know the members better. HOOAH!

Admin reply: Welcome home Terry!
